SEA-EU-NET UNESCO Joint Workshop
Capability Building, Co-creation, and Co-operation on Science, Technology, and Innovation Indicators in Southeast Asia
Rationale:
SEA-EU-NET, the four years project funded under the European Union 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technological Development, aims at increasing the quality, quantity, profile and impact of bi-regional Science and Technology (S&T) cooperation between the ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Member- and Associated States of the European Union (EU). The four main objectives of the project are dialogue for strengthening bi-regional and bi-lateral dialogues in scientific cooperation and to assist the joint identification of topics for collaboration under FP7 thematic programmes, decision-making to report to EU-presidencies in order to incorporate recent political developments and to generally highlight EU-ASEAN initiatives within the political decision making process, networking different stakeholders (such as universities, industry, government, civil society and donors) in order to strengthen research capacity, and coherence to facilitate the development and implementation of a coherent European level approach towards international S&T cooperation.
Under work package 4, Task 4.1: Review of national S&T statistics and statistical capacities in Southeast Asia, is designed to provide scientific evidence to the bi-regional policy dialogue platforms, to facilitate the access and exchange of S&T information, to identify success factors and best practices of the cooperation between the two regions, to analyze the link to current global challenges, and to provide concrete recommendations on improving S&T collaboration between the EU and Southeast Asia (SEA).
This workshop is jointly developed by SEA-EU-NET and United Nations Educational, Scienctific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The workshop sessions will dedicate to the three major dimensions as follow;
1) Strenghtening SEA capability building process for a dynamic bi-regional science, technology, and innovation (STI) statistics and related areas, to facilitate a comparative learning community in STI.
2) Indicating a bi-regional co-operation issues on STI statistics and indicators, and
3) To co-create a sustaining and workable recommendation to improve STI collaboration between EU and SEA.
