Singapore International Water Week

The search for sustainable and cost-effective water management solutions is of the utmost importance during the current economic downturn. Infrastructure and technology developments are vital to maximise engineering efficiency and investment returns.

Singapore International Water Week 2009, themed Sustainable Cities – Infrastructure and Technologies for Water, is a global platform that brings together policymakers, industry leaders, experts and practitioners to address challenges, showcase technologies, discover opportunities and celebrate achievements in the water world.

There are a number of water infrastructures and technologies being showcased, as well as opportunities to form new partnerships, and network with numerous water experts.

The event’s flagship programmes comprise:

  • Water Leaders Summit
  • Water Convention
  • Water Expo
  • Business Forums
  • Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize

In line with the sustainable cities theme, the Changi Water Reclamation Plant, which is Singapore's largest and most advanced used water treatment facility, will be opened by the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, during the Water Week. As the heart of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System, Singapore's superhighway for used water management, this new plant ensures the sustainability of NEWater, Singapore's own brand of high-grade reclaimed water.

Changi Water Reclamation Plant, together with the newly completed Marina Barrage and innovative NEWater technology, exemplify effective solutions for cities, especially those facing increasing water demand and pollution challenges. Rich experiences in such mega projects can be tapped right in Singapore.

Singapore International Water Week 2009 will also coincide with the 7th Ministers’ Forum on Infrastructure Development in the Asia Pacific Region and International Water Association’s Leading Edge Technologies Conference (LET).
